Wow, I feel like a broken record when I say that it has been way too long since I have last blogged. I am so sorry I am so behind (about 4 weddings and a gazillion other shoots to be exact)! {Mr. & Mrs. Neville}

First off can I just say that I love destination weddings! Sometimes I cheat on my love for photography with my love of travel. So when the two loves collide, which they often do, it is like pure bliss. In this case Tripp (he’s a William Neville III) and Brooke were married just outside of Boston in a little town called Duxbury. Duxbury has a similar feel to the Cape and is only about a 30 minute drive from there. The streets of Duxbury are lined with amazing houses that are just oozing character and history. Tripp and Brooke’s parents both have houses on the water where there is just a calm sea that quietly crashes up on the shore. The town is just so peaceful. The beaches are beautiful and many of them have these great green tall fields of grass on the sand. I was able to photograph Brooke in front of this fantastic willow tree by her parents’ house. I wish we had more trees like that one in OC. Tripp and Brooke said their vows at a park that overlooks the bay. Then we headed over to have the reception at a venue that is actually an old house. It was a small quaint wedding filled with close family and friends. Brooke and her mom worked so hard to put this wedding together in just a couple of months! Be sure to check out Brooke’s flowers. She wrapped them in natural rope and then put them in vases. She pulled the idea after seeing a photo of another one of my bride’s bouquets and then she put her own twist on it. I love it when my bride’s inspire one another! To say the least it was a wonderful wedding and I always love a trip to one of my favorite cities, Boston. It was a pleasure photographing you Tripp and Brooke!

{Greg & Colette E-Session}

I love shooting in new places and I had the opportunity to do that with Greg and Colette. We did their engagement session in Santa Barbara. It was such a beautiful day which we filled with plenty of laughs, good conversation and fabulous photos. Greg and Colette are a hoot and holler to be around. They are hilarious and together I seriously think they could conquer the world! We spent part of the day up at Westmont College, where Greg and Colette met and became good friends. It wasn’t until after college that just being friends wasn’t cutting it anymore. So naturally they fell in love. If you have not been to Westmont you should know that it has a beautiful campus with neat earthy feel with lots of tall trees. They actually had this area with strings of hanging pine cones. I was a little obsessed with these (poor Greg, I think he thought I was crazy!). After spending time on campus we grabbed smoothies from one of Greg and Colette’s favorite places and then we headed to the beach for just a few quick photos. I really enjoyed this shoot. I was able to really get to know Greg and Colette much better and we just had a ton of fun together. Engagement shoots are so important because they don’t just serve the purpose of photos but the e-session really gives me a chance to get to know the bride and groom and they get to know me. E-sessions also give the bride and groom a chance to see how I shoot and how we will be working together at the wedding. It’s an ice breaker and a great warm up before the wedding!

I'm pretty sure God is just as humorous as we are :)

This past family shoot was so much fun. I have to say this now (before I forget), Rachel’s kids are the first kids under the age of 5 that did not drop a single tear or commit an act of frustration through the entire shoot!! LOL I was so impressed by them. They were upbeat and loved the camera, not to say most of the kids I photograph don’t. But usually within a 1-2 hour shoot the little guys get “over it”. So round of applause to you McKee family! Rachel brought this really neat old chair that we incorporated into the shoot to set a homey atmosphere out in nature. We also used a sweet little chair that Kaeylin sat on which was Jeremy’s (their Dad) chair when he was a kid. I love using props or other creative extras that have meaning to my clients. Rachel and Jeremy brought along Rachel’s brother and Mom as well and it was really fun to have the whole family there. It was a fun shoot guys, thanks again for being amazing!!

This is one of my fav shots of the day!! Poor little guy kept getting gnats flying by him and he got one on his nose so he kept blowing air from his nose to get them out (it was so cute)! Here Mom and Dad are doing it with him and sweet little Kaelyn is looking right at me :)

{Calvary Senior Girls}

This shoot was just before summer so I am quite late on this blog post (sorry!) but none the less I wanted to put some photos up these fabulous girls. My cousin leads a Bible study for a group of then high school seniors and now officially college freshmen. These young ladies were so fun to be around. Their young energy and enthusiasm was ultimately contagious! Seeing these ladies and hearing about their plans for college and their future kind of made me miss my high school days. I went to high school at Villa Park. I feel like I was just as busy then as I am now. I filled my high school days with high school and club soccer and volleyball. I was also on ASB and was the president of the Associated Women Students club. Between dances, football games and just hanging with friends on the weekend I was a very happy girl. As I have mentioned in past posts I am confident to say that I have the best friends ever. There is a group of us from high school that still has dinner, weekend runs to Palm Springs and Vegas and enjoys the occasional cocktail and piano bar night out. We have such a special bond and it is so neat to see such long friendships continue throughout the changes and chapters of our lives. I am so excited for these amazing young women that are just starting out on their newest adventure! Good luck ladies!

{Ethiopia}

There are photos at the end of this post, not many. I haven't had much time to do a lot of editing but I promise I will have more photos up soon along with more detailed stories from my trip!

I have to apologize for the late blog on my trip to Ethiopia. I have been extremely busy with wedding season and Holiday card photos so I am a little behind. I also wrote a full page on my trip and it somehow mysteriously disappeared from my computer so here we go… As many of you know, I spent about a month in Ethiopia this past summer. I was fortunate enough to be able to join a missions team from Vanguard University here in Costa Mesa. Although I have been out of college for 3 years, the team made me feel extremely welcomed and right at home! There was also another girl who is about my age that joined the trip as well. All together we had 14 people on our team and we were so blessed to have 2 local Ethiopian pastors (Belay & Tsegaye) join us for the month as well. They were so helpful with translating and getting around town and they became dear friends of ours!!

We spent the majority of our time in the city, Addis Ababa, and we stayed in an area called Mekanisa. We stayed in a couple of different “guest houses” which are basically large homes with bunks in the bedrooms, kind of like a homey hostel. We loved the guesthouse that we stayed at the longest, it became our home!! We also loved the guest house owners who were so sweet and welcoming. So I want to tell you everything about my trip but I will keep it brief and give you an overall look at the trip and I can blog specific parts and events down the road. For the most part we spent our time at an orphanage called A Hope, which is an orphanage for HIV positive kids. There are two separate orphanage houses located about a mile apart, Little A Hope (kids infant-7) and Big A Hope (kids 8-18). We spent most of the time at Big A Hope where I was able to connect with many of the kids but 2 little boys in particular. Their names are Abdilazizis and Metasenute. We played with the kids almost everyday (they love soccer and basketball), sang songs, did crafts and danced!! Then we put on a “VBS” (vacation Bible school) and an Olympics. On our final day with them after being there for 3 weeks we took them on an AMAZING field trip to a town 3 hours away called Sodere. Sodere has hot springs and a huge Olympic size pool and also a shallow pool that are naturally heated. All of the kids went swimming in the little pool and we swan with them, I tried to teach the boys how to swim J, and we spent the whole day in the sun. It was so amazing because the kids really don’t get to leave the orphanage except to attend school so it was a big deal to them. They also don’t have many swimming pools over there so to see a pool and get to swim is something that many Ethiopians never have the chance to do. It was this day on the bus ride home, with a little 9 year old Abdilazizis curled up on my lap taking pictures with my camera out the window, that I had an ache in my heart because I didn’t want to leave and I new our flight home was only days away. Everyone at A Hope put on a goodbye show for us, which included songs, cookies, big smiles and really sweet notes that some of the kids wrote/drew for us. I think of these kids daily and pray for them and I miss them so much!!

When we weren’t at A Hope we were keeping busy doing many other things. We put on a 3-day VBS for another group of kids that have families but come to a childcare-like center. We also spent a Saturday at a place that offers care for HIV positive children that are “half-orphans” which means that they live with extended family. These kids were so fun to sing songs with and act out plays from old Bible stories. I fell in love with the youngest boy there. He is only 3 and he might be the only chubby Ethiopian I saw on the whole trip! He won me over when I saw him approach the van as we drove in. He was running up limbs flying, with a smile from ear to ear and dressed in baggy jeans, a lime green t-shirt and an amazing jean vest!! His name is Mohammed but they call him “Do Jo” which I think means chubby J. He was awesome and he became my buddy for the day! I hated having to say goodbye when I knew we would not have another chance to visit that particular place. Meeting new people and kids and then being forced to say goodbye became a trend that I was not a fan of. That was probably the hardest thing about this trip. I would connect with certain kids, young women and ladies that ran the orphanages and then I would have to say goodbye and this pattern was paired with many tears on both sides of the goodbyes.

We visited one other orphanage called The Joshua Academy, which was 2 hours out of the city in more of a desert landscape. These kids did not have HIV, but they also don’t have families for many different reasons. There were many kids at this orphanages and the orphanage was set up with small houses (more like apartments) which all had housemothers. I really connected and spent many hours talking with the Esther, the woman who runs the Joshua Academy and oversees all the housemothers. Esther is the sweetest lady and she has been blessing to those kids. She is Ethiopian but had lived in the US for many years with her daughter. She felt God tugging at her heart to travel back to Addis and work for this orphanage and so she did. She left her home, her daughter, her grandchild and followed the path God laid out for her. She encourages me to sacrifice things I may not want to in order to head in the direction God has for me even though it may not be the path I have in mind. I am so thankful with my time spent with her. I of course spent tons of time with the kids too and once again one of the boys and I became good pals. I think God is insisting that I go back and adopt 10-year-old boys once I am married and ready! But this boy Oschalo he found me. We were taking a walk around the orphanage and somehow I walked into some bush and got about 30 thorns stuck in my pants and it was itching instantly. This quite timid boy who had been following me on the tour, and which I might add didn’t speak a lick of English!, stopped me and started picking out each individual thorn. He smiled at me while he did this and it was like we were having a conversation without words. It was a moment of kindness that was so amazing. So naturally for the next 3 days we played soccer together, took pictures and had sprint races! Which led to every boy there wanting to race me as well. So needless to say I got some good workouts in!

One of the other places we went about 3 times was a place called the Debora house. I saved this for last because I am dying to go back there. Debora house is a home where about 20 girls live. They are mostly about age 15-21 and they have all come from the streets or have decided to run away from home or they don not have families anymore. They have a housemother that lives there and they all work or go to school. It is really just a family that is created in that home. The housemother is a Christian and most of the girls are as well. It is incredible hearing their stories and how they came to know the Lord and how he has saved them. The girls are so smart and beautiful. They are close in age to me (well, kinda… 26 is close enough to 21 right?), which made it easier to relate with and understand where they are coming from, what they like and just talk as friends. Saying goodbye to these girls after spending about an 8 hr day together and night out at dinner followed by singing, dancing and just hanging out was so hard to do. I really don’t think I have tried to hold back tears more than I did that night. As the housemother prayed for our safe return home one of the girls was griping my hand so hard and I could feel her tears of sobs falling onto my hand and it just made me so sad that our connections and friendship was so short lived. I pray that those girls keep pressing on and continue to learn and grow and become strong Ethiopian women that can be examples to other young girls out there.

I know I need to wrap this up or no one will want to read this post! Basically God really blessed me with this trip and it has opened my eyes up to so much more than I could have ever imagined. I do plan to adopt down the road. I do plan to head back to Addis, God willing. I am praying that I will have tons of weddings booked in spring and fall so that I can leave the end of July and all of August open for a trip back to see all my new friends J! The kids I met there and the special people I connected with all have a permanent place in my heart and I think and pray about the daily. God has his hand on those people and that nation and they are so special.

{Chris & Libby Wedding}

This might have been the best designed wedding I have ever seen. Everyone needs to meet the genius behind the veil that designed and planned this entire wedding! Please meet Libby! She made all the girls hair pieces by hand from pieces she ordered from etsy.com. She also made all of the seating assignment tags (cutest idea ever, check out the birds below). From detail to detail Chris and Libby's wedding was made to reflect them and their fun creative awesome selves. They were such a pleasure to photograph and I had so much fun at their wedding I felt like I was barely working :) Big thanks to Amy Clarke who did a fabulous job on Libby and the girls' makeup and to Melody Rachunok for the doing a fab job on the hair. It was love at first sight when I saw the venue, The Mitten Building. With so many great places to shoot and such a fabulous couple this wedding was by far one of my favorites of the year. Thanks Chris and Libby for being such an amazing couple and now such great friends.

{The Blog Is Back!}

Og my goodness, I am so so so sorry for neglecting the blog these past couple of months. So much has been going and it has been a crazy and busy couple of months. As I shared earlier this summer I went to Ethiopia for the month of July. I had the most incredible time out there. I joined on a missions trip with Vanguard University and I worked at a couple of orphanages out there. I met the most amazing people and had the best time. More blogs on Ethiopia coming soon I promise. The other half of my summer and beginning of fall has been packed with WEDDINGS! I have been so busy, which I love, and I have been shooting all over the place (Boston, Ritz @ Dana Point, Nixon, and so many more fun venues). I can't say enough how blessed I am to have the some many incredible bride and grooms this year. I love them all and it just so happens I usually become friends with them all through the wedding process.

I am going to do my best to get caught up on my blogging so keep your eyes peeled, there should be about 4 or 5 weddings postings coming up soon as well as tons of Ethiopia blogs :) Miss ya all and I am happy to be back on the blog! xo Katelin

What a fun engagement session this one was. I have known the groom to be since the day I was born, we even have the same birthday. I am so happy to be able to shoot Ben and his fiance Jenn's wedding in Sept at none other than the fabulous Ritz Carlton Laguna Beach. It is going to be such a beautiful wedding. These two are perfect for each other and it shows whenever they are together. I could be happier for this couple!

Wow Tim and Heather, what can I say? They are such a beautiful couple with the happiest hearts ever on their wedding day. I had the pleasure of shooting for Eric Slay with Paper White Photography. He is so great to shoot with! Fun, relaxed and creative is Eric to a tee! The first time I met Tim and Heather was on their wedding day all dressed up and ready for their monumental day and honestly just by being able to photograph them and see their genuine emotion towards one another I felt like I knew them for years. I love what I am able to experience behind the lens and I love that I am blessed to capture these split second moments that go by on such a special day. I LOVE MY JOB!

I LOVE to take photographs of urban landscapes, although this photo looks more like an urban portrait to me. I love that I can always see something beautiful in something old, rundown or just something that some people might think is ugly. If you search with your eye you can see the beauty in anything. I pretty much love everything you can do with a camera so therefore I have a love for many types of photography. Of course I absolutely love to shoot weddings and children. There is something great about working with kids and capturing someone's wedding day is so rewarding in itself. I have recently just starting getting into more documentary work as well. This photo was taken down in Mexico when I was down there building houses. With doing as much travel as I do I come across the most amazing people. I often get to meet them and hear their stories and connect with them on some level. These boys were playing soccer down there and having so much fun and then their soccer ball got kicked into a stream and they could'y reach it. It was kinda sad but I got this great series of shots from them and this one is my favorite.

So Todd and Sara Jo might be one of the funniest couples I have ever photographed. Together they are pure entertainment and I love it! Their wedding is going to be a blast I just know it. They will be getting married down in CDM with a very fun reception to follow down on the peninsula. They thought it fitting to do their e-session down by the fairy and fun zone. I can't wait to shoot their wedding after such a fun engagement session.

So I can't believe how fast time flies by! I feel like just yesterday I was in high school playing soccer, taking a few pics and only thinking about how nervous I was for Senior Prom. Now the stresses of life and excitements of life seem much bigger and weigh much heavier on me. Sometimes I think I hate to be turning another year older and then sometimes I think wow I am so young. I have the whole world at my fingertips. Right now I am excited to spend my birthday with all my dear friends having brunch and then cruising on the bay in a duffy boat with good tunes blaring! I think 26 is going to be a great year! My business is now booming and I am thrilled to be able to spend my days working with genuine people and capturing moments that will soon be over and fly by with time as well.

{CA Coast Road Trip Volume 4}

Ok this is the last road trip post, I promise. This trip was just so fun I wanted to post a lot. So we ended up in San Fran to see some of our dear friends who live an hour flight away from us (we miss them constantly!). Jessi and I were lucky enough to stay in our friend Keith's HUGE and gorgeous studio right in Russian Hill in the thick of all the action. We didn't cramp his style because he was off playing in Nappa. Thanks again Keith! I fell in love with San Fran a couple of years ago when I visited for the first time as an adult. The city has so much character and an array of fabulous people. For now I will only visit but who knows what the future holds.

{Ca Coast Road Trip Volume 3}

Ok, so I'm not afraid to be silly nor afraid to share with you my silly pictures so I threw a couple in there. THese photos are all from Santa Cruz and Capitola. These town is AMAZING It was so fun. We stayed there for 8 hours and rented bikes, ate on the pier and went on a ton of rides on the boardwalk. Luckily the bike riding and walking counter acted all the popcorn and cotton candy we ate, right? Oh and check out the amazing blue sky and clouds that rolled in in the late afternoon. I had never seen a sky so bright (I did no color enhancement I promise!).

So if you haven't guessed by now from reading the blog or meeting me in person... I love to travel, see knew things and meet new people. Sometimes I get bored, I blame it on my restless creative mind. So I haven't had quite enough time to take a trip for more than 3 days so my friend Jessi was on board when I suggested a little road trip up the CA coast from OC to SF. It was so fun and extremely beautiful. We went through Slo, Big Sur, Santa Cruz, SF and a few other little awesome towns in between. So here are some fun pics from our time in San Luis Obispo... we kinda loved Bubble Gum Alley.

So this was an extra fun wedding because I was able to let loose on the dance floor with my best friends. I was not the main photographer for this event because I was on the other side of the wedding process... I was a BRIDESMAID!! It was so fun and it was so amazing to watch my best friend from college marry the most genuine, loving and fun man. They are so great together and they truly make an amazing team. I had to sneak a few snaps of the shutter though... it's just my nature. I love these photos and I love you Ariana and Aaron!!

My all time favorite number is (drumroll please).... 33! I love the number 33. It has been my partner in crime throughout my soccer career, my Vegas career (yes I said Vegas!) and somehow it just always pops up everywhere. In fact I am doing this fact about me because 33 just keeps popping for the last week and a half. It's always on the clock, my scrabble score and even on the elliptical machine! I think it's a sign it time for a girls trip to Vegas :) 33 was my Dad's old football number so naturally I picked it for my soccer number when I was just in Jr. High and it has stuck with me ever since!!

Here is sweet baby Caden. Not only is Caden maybe the cutest little guy I ever seen but he has an older brother who is just as adorable. It is no surprise how cute these guys are once you have seen their beautiful parents. I always love my newborn sessions. The newbies are usually pretty calm and quite and that makes for a relaxing shoot. Somehow I got away with another shoot accident free (with no diapers the accidents are usually inevitable) so we lucked out! Another fun newborn shoot completed.

Oh, wow once again i am late on my post :( Yikes I need to kick it in to gear.

Well today I am going to share with you that I have quite the wandering soul. I love to see new things, try new things and learn new things. I love change. I love to evolve. I have ADD which many of you already know. I like to think my ADD plays a part in keeping me excited and on the edge of my seat (literally) and ready to experience new things at any time! Being this way lead my desire to travel and start seeing the world when I was just 16 years old. At 16 I joined a US soccer team and traveled to Denmark and Sweden to play a little ball and share my love for Jesus Christ. That was when I caught the travel bug. Learning about new cultures in school was great but being in one and eating new foods, doing new dances and speaking with people who speak another language taught me more than a text book ever could have. After that trip I promised myself the traveling wouldn't stop there, and it didn't. In college I lived in Australia for a semester and it was one of the best 6 months of my life. From there I traveled to NewZealand and Fiji. Shortly after that I spent sometime in Mexico, the Bahamas and Ireland. My love to travel it chomping at the bit because I haven't taken a trip out of the country in the past 2 years. The next 2 trips on the itinerary are Croatia and Greece hopefully followed by Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. But I am most excited to share with you that I will be traveling to ETHIOPIA this summer to spend 3 weeks working at an orphanage. I am truly ecstatic for this trip and I am blessed to be going on it. I will surly update you with blogs, photos and many stories when I get back in Aug!

So these were maybe two of the cutest boys I have ever met, I hope when I have kids they will be as cute as these ones. These brothers have birthdays so close together so it is way convenient for their mom to do a joint birthday party!! Good call April! As some of you may already know, I have been a Summer Camp Counselor for the Orange YMCA resident week camp for over 7 years now. Camp is a special place to me. It's somewhere I can collect my thoughts for the year, recharge my batteries, re prioritize what is important in my life and somewhere that I can make an impact on kids that need camp as well. So sorry I know I am a day late! Yesterday was a busy day out of the house filled with about a million errands and a fabulous lunch with a good friend and an overdue coffee date as well. So since it really doesn't rain much here in Southern Cali I wasn't prepared for the heaps of rain that we were having. So naturally I thought... YAY an excuse to by winter clothes and pretend I live on the east coast for about 10 days out of our winter. So I got myself a pair of these bad boys. I love them. It is so fun to throw a few Senior pics into the mix each year, it makes me feel young again! For about 2 hours I miss high school days and then, well then I don't anymore :) But really I did love my high schools days; soccer, volleyball, ASB, dances and not a worry in sight! Those were some good times. Anyhow Megan and I had some fun in old town Orange cruising around, laughing and taking some beautiful pics. Once again I luck out with these gorgeous blue-eyes subjects to shoot and it makes me wish my eyes weren't boring old brown. Megan is looking forward to attending ASU and I wish her all the luck in the world, even though she will be the biggest rival for my WILDCATS and U of A :) Good luck Meg!

Another thing about me you may not know is I LOVE MY HOLGA camera. So I'm not gonna lie, I was kinda bummed when I saw Urban Outfitters was selling holga cameras. Don't get me wrong I lovvvvvve Urban! I have been a dedicated shopper since, well before I had a driver's license (long ago)! But, they have become this over priced trendy fad now and that kinda takes the fun out of it for me. But, I bought my first holga when I was 21 in my first college photo class. Needless to say I have been using it ever since. It is so simple, so unpredictable and that is why I love it (and I have always been a fan of square format). Anyways, my old holga finally broke, and when I say broke I mean the duck tape that has been holding it together finally gave way and I purchased a 2nd holga. So this blog is a little late but better late then never, or so I tell myself just this once. I am usually right on time!! Well this wedding was so much fun. Danny and Katie were so laid back which made it so easy and fun to get shoot. I second shot this wedding with the amazing Eric Slay with Paper White Photography. He is an amazing photographer and so fun to shoot with! Turned out that I knew a few of the groomsmen from back in the high school days. So for today, since it is St. Patty's I feel it best to share with you all about my heritage. My middle name is Wallace and my last name is actually Journigan. Wallace is Scottish and Journigan is French. I am about 50% Irish! 25% Scottish! and about 25% French! with a pinch of some Dutch in there too. This engagement shoot was filled with laughs from both the engaged couple and from me as well. I have know Kelsey since high school back to our high school and club volleyball days. She clearly has the height that I was always lacking so naturally she was a middle and I was the setter. I hadn't met her fiance, Tommy, until the day of our shoot so I didn't quite know what to expect. He was just a hilariously and outgoing as Kelsey. i am telling you they are perfect for each other, match made in heaven. I am so looking forward to their wedding in Sept. at the beautiful Nixon Library.

A new fresh {BLOG} & {WPPI}

So I just got back from WWPI and it was great! I spent 4 days out in Vegas, mostly working and well a little playing as well :) I had a wonderful time meeting up w/Joan Allen a dear friend and mentor of mine. I was also able to meet many fabulous photogs (Braeden Flynn and Kurt Hilmerson just to mention a few). I learned many new great tips and tricks at the seminars. Tamara Lackey and Jasmine Star were just a couple of the speakers that I truly enjoyed.

In light of the new inspiration and all that I have taken away from WPPI I have set a few new goals for this here BLOG. So not only will this blog be to write about my most amazing clients and share their photos but I will be revealing a bit about myself (EVERY WEDNESDAY) and also sharing some photog tips and tricks of my own and interesting articles, videos and so forth that have helped shape me and and my photog career. Please feel free to jump in and ask me QUESTIONS, leave your COMMENTS or just SAY HELLO!! I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!!

So I leave you with one little thing about me to kick things off as well as a little Vegas story to go with it. My favorite # is 33.

I happened to have really bad luck and lose the majority of the time. Roulette is my fav game out there and from time to time I enjoy a little black jack and slots as well. My fav # is 33. It my all time favorite. My dad's old football # and my old soccer # and it has stuck with forever. It has proved to be quite the lucky # in the past but this week it was doing me no good. Until... I was heading out of Viva and on my way to hit the road home and I stopped w/some friends to check out the new "City" in vegas and had some lunch at Aria hotel. FYI check out Aria, it is beautiful, modern and sexy. I plan to stay there in the future. Anyways back to my bad luck, I had $40 left and decided why not give it one more whirl at #33. So I hit the roulette table, meeting some fine lads in town from Manchester, England, and lost $30 and in one last attempt threw down my last $10 on #33 and what do you know, IT HIT!! So I made $350 and cashed out and went straight to my car to head home :)

Umm I think Cruz gets the most adorable little ham award! He is the cutest thing ever and his eyes just draw you in. His Mom and Dad were the best, most helpful and fun to photograph parents. We had planned to shoot some sleeping photos and apparently Cruz is the best sleeper ever, but as it normally goes on baby shoots... he didn't sleep a wink, not even for one second! So we had some fun with it and took advantage of those big brown eyes of his. Cruz gets a high five for not peeing once! i don't know how he did it but he is the first baby to never pee w/out his diaper on during the shoot. Oh, and I couldn't resist throwing in a picture of their unbelievably friendly dog, Lincoln. He was by my side the entire shoot waiting patiently for his moment in front of the camera, so I gave him the spot light on the chair, in his sweater and he soaked it up!!

Wow, I apologize for my lack of blogging!! It has been way too long and just down right unacceptable! Unfortunately, January has been a slow month for me and not to mention the rain and dark weather have kept me in the house way too often when I should have been out and about exploring with my canon in hand. I promise to share some more of my personal art projects that I have been working on... photography and mixed media paintings are both in the works and they just may cross over from one to the other.

Lately I have been extremely inspired to get back to my mixed media art that I fell into while at The University of Arizona. I was there getting my Bachelors of Fine Art Degree w/an emphasis in photography. Many of you may not know that photographers usually take pictures because we can't draw (hehe) or maybe it is just me who is worthless with a pencil in hand. So I was forced to take a few other art classes among the bazillion photo classes I was taking. My last semester I had to choose between watercolor 101 or painting 101... so naturally I thought watercolor (I had done watercolors when I was a kid) how hard could it be right? Well let me tell you I wasn't very good and our first assignment was to paint four lemons and mine didn't depict the perfect shaped and lovely shaded lemons that the others had. Mine were kind of long and skinny and bumpy and bright yellow and I threw a turquoise one in there too. My professor got to me durning the critique and I was terrified and then she said... wait for it... "I like your lemons, they have character." I was pleasantly shocked and I think she was too! So from there on out I did every assignment however I wanted to and although my paintings weren't always a realistic portrayal they had their own character. From there I stumbled upon different mediums and techniques and now I continue to make all sorts of things. One of my favorite artists is Robert Rauschenberg and his combined paintings and love his work.

Somehow whenever I shoot out in the fields God decides that he should send some rain down in lovely Southern California. It rains probably 20 times a year in Orange County and twice now those days have been durning my outdoor shoots!! All is ok though because as we drove up to the fields the rain just stopped! It was awesome. Then we had an extremely fun shoot. Lee and Crystal were great and they brought along their puggle Bentley. He is so cute and he was very well behaved. Here is a little tip for you photogs out there photographing dogs: Place a little doggie treat on top of your mini soft box on your flash. The dog, in this case Bentley, will sit still and smile at you for as long as you like!! Then of course feed him, lots :) To say the least this was another fun shoot, in one of my favorite locations, and Lee and Crystal got some fun Christmas pics! Oh, I should mention that since we shot in late November Lee still had the remains of his "Movember Mustache" so we used it to our advantage and had a little fun with it...

I have two words that describe this shoot: BLUE EYES! Wow, I have never seen any baby with as bright blue eyes in all my days of infant shoots than I have with Kaia. Her eyes are outrageously beautiful., she got them from her mom. This shoot was so awesome because Kaia's dad is one of my best and longest friends. He is am amazing dad and so lucky to have such a precious little girl.

Plain and simple, kids crack me up. Rocco and Olivia being two kids that made me laugh almost the entire shoot. We basically ran around down at the fun zone on the Newport Peninsula. We took some photos, they ate some hotdogs and we just had fun. PERK of living in SO CALI is it's bright and sunny at 70 degrees in December!!

I can't believe how big Olivia is already getting! I photographed her at just 3 days old back in Sept. We did these photos when she was about 3 months old and did more with her amazing Mom and Dad! She gets cuter everyday and I am so happy I had the privilege of taking more photos of her. One of the best parts of my job is being able see couples and families grow. These two boys just might be the cutest ever! They are growing up as fast as can be. Sometimes photographing kids can be quite the challenge. Let's face it kids and toddlers have a mind of their own and so the trick is to make them laugh. Be SILLY! Be FUNNY! Once you do that they barely even notice that the camera is around. It does also help to bribe ever so often with SUGAR!!

This was such a fun event! 95.9 The Fish radio station put on their annual Fish Christmas Concert right here in Orange County and it was actually at my old church, Calvary of Santa Ana, that I attended all through high school. It was like the old days walking onto the property... and I mean old days!! Matthew West, Tenth Avenue North and Tim Timmons all played. I love how my job consist of going to great events, weddings, playing with kids etc... and I get to be entertained and have the privilege of document amazing moments.

So Brooke and Paige came to me wanting some photos of their Mother's beloved new child... Maddy. She got Maddy a few years ago once both girls left the house for college... I believe it's called "empty nest syndrome". So what better to replace your kids empty rooms with other than an adorable little lab. I can't wait until I get one of my own :) I don't do many photo shoots with dogs but lately they have just kinda been falling into my lap ad let me tell you those shoots can often be more unpredictable than infant shoots! Maddy was a great subject and she cooperated extremely well!! All together it was a fun shoot.

{An Amazing Wedding}

So where do I begin? This wasn't your typical wedding as you can probably see. However, it was one of the most special weddings I have ever had the opportunity of photographing. The couple here has been together for quite sometime and they decided to get married with the help of a local church ministry. This couple lives in their trailer in Orange. They had all of their close friends attend their wedding. The park they got married in was packed with over 50 homeless friends, all there to support their friends on their special day. Since the wedding was around Halloween they came up with the brilliant idea of a Halloween themed wedding. The talented bride made almost all of the costumes. The bridal party and most of the guests dressed up! Amongst all of the people there I was able to chat with a few in particular and really get to know them and a bit about their life thus far. They were all so sweet and had the most interesting life stories to share with me. After the wedding I hung around and caught up with two of my new friends, "Tattoo" and "The Joker". They made me laugh harder than I have in awhile. Those guys sure know how to tell a good story and a couple of jokes. I will never forget how fun this day was and I plan to return soon and hang out with my new buddies, maybe over some coffee, del taco and few more good stories! :)

My good friend, Emily James, is an amazing stylist and is headed down the road to success! We had a great shoot a couple of weeks ago to build her portfolio. It is crazy how it never rains in So Cal and of course on the day of our shoot it was pouring all morning. I was brainstorming back up ideas and possibly shooting in the studio but that was going to alter our soft vintage look we were going for. Praise God, as we got off our exit the clouds were parting and sunlight was literally breaking through the clouds and the lighting was perfect!! Every photog's dream. {Remembering 9-11}

It seems like just yesterday that I was sitting at my desk in my first photography class at Villa Park High School. I was a 17 year old junior, needless to say I was young and innocent and unaware of the tragedy that was possible in our world. That morning in class was something that I will never forget. It was solemn, quiet and still. Everyone around me was mute with blank faces as we listened to the old radio my teacher had on that was bringing live news of the tragic events of that morning of 9-11. As I sat and tried to process it all with confusion, fear and anxiety in the back of my mind I just prayed for those who lost their lives and for their families. I am proud of our country and I feel blessed to call myself an American. Today is a day that we should all remember those who died and thank those you who serve and protect us!

What can I say about little Jack... besides the fact that he might be the cutest baby EVER! Jack was such a pleasure to photograph. Not only is he absolutely adorable at the sweet little age of only three weeks but he is a lively alert little guy! In over 4 hours the little man never once caught any zzzzz's!! He has got a mind of his own and something tells me he is going to take after his dad, Ryan. Although we weren't able to get any sleeping baby shots we certainly captured this heartbreaker at his best. So this is the one and only "Gus" I wish he were mine (since I have dreamt about having an all white English Bulldog since I was about... well 5!) He belongs to my dear friend Kirstin. Gus is only about 8 months old, a thriving adolescent with plenty of energy to go around! He has two specific loves... food and his soccer ball. He chases his soccer ball around everywhere and when he is not playing he has it at his side, between his paws, under his chest etc... He won't let anyone get a hand on it. It is the cutest thing ever. I couldn't resist snapping a few pics while I was over there making dinner with Kir.

I had the privilege of photographing the Grand Opening of The Eco Projekt at Gallery 104 a couple of weeks ago. It was a huge turn out and the art was amazing. There were many different mediums of art and it was all so eclectic. The artists were so kind and welcoming and it was great getting to know many of them. The show will be up for awhile so you all should go check it out. It is off of Del Mar street in San Clemente, which is such a fun part of town!

First off I am sooooo sorry for taking so long on my blogs these past three weeks! I have been terribly busy with a wedding.... not photographing one but being in one! My best friend Christi just got married last weekend and it was the most beautiful wedding ever! I forced myself to refrain from keeping my camera with me so I could just enjoy the night with Christi and the Bridal Party! However there will be some pics of Christi in her dress coming up in the next month or so. They are on their amazing honeymoon in Playa de Carmen and when she gets back with her perfect tan :) we are going to get her back in her dress for a few shots!

Andrew and Paulina are the cutest and sweetest twins I have ever seen. They were so fun to photograph, especially because they are my best friend's (Christi) little bro and sis. Babies are definitely unpredictable which made for some funny times during the shoot (yes there was a lot of pee involved)! So I just went on an amazing road trip with a friend of mine. We drove on the original (hardly maintained) ROUTE 66 and spent three days photographing. We went through a number of old small towns as well as some big ones. We came upon some very interesting places as well as people. We had to end our Route 66 expedition in Flagstaff, AZ but we are hoping to pick up where we left off next year and finish it out all the way to end.

Route 66 - Bottle Tree Ranch

Bottle Tree Ranch was a thrilling place we discovered along Route 66. We stopped off to venture in and take some photos and that is how we met a man by the name of Elmer. Elmer owns Bottle Tree Ranch, which is this place he has been building for 9 years. He told us that he just collects bottles and random objects and he just continuously builds this place that looks like a forest made up of man made objects. It was awesome chatting with Elmer and listening to his story. I even convinced him to let me take his picture and he managed to sneak in a quick smile.

This was my first time photographing pets. It was fun and definitely unpredictable! The cat "Noodle" was a challenge but Maverick behaved really good for a puppy! Thanks to my friend Kate who bribed them with treats the entire time!

One of my very best friends is getting married! Christi and Graham just got engaged this October and they are so excited to announce that their wedding will be May 16th 2009 at the Marriott Hotel by Fashion Island. I could not be more thrilled and excited for the two of them! I am also so excited to be one of the bridesmaids. This wedding will definitely be one to remember!
